We cannot afford to lose another generation of Aboriginal children to the criminal justice system.

Right now, over half the children in NSW jails are Aboriginal. In 2014 it cost us $293,200 to lock up one child for one year. Imagine what that money could be spent on in communities.

The recently aired ABC Four Corners 'Backing Bourke' episode gave us insight into the importance of a justice reinvestment approach in the Bourke community to curb youth crime and reduce incarceration.

It was great to see such a fantastic turnout at the KLC Justice Reinvest Youth Forum. We were privileged to hear from youth ambassadors Kobie Duncan, Trei Stewart and Keenan Mundine. We are really grateful to them for sharing their stories.  The forum was a huge success thanks to these wonderful young people and the organisation of KLC’s Indigenous access worker and fellow youth ambassador Kaleesha Morris. We would also like to thank Sarah Hopkins for her insightful words about the Just Reinvest program, and Dr Peter McKenzie for his warm Welcome to Country.
